TMJ Disorders (Tempro-Mandibular Joints Disorders)
TMDs refer to a group of conditions, often painful, that affect the jaw joint and associated muscles when the joints do not work together correctly. Many causes work together contributing to the condition and its severity. About 6% of the population suffered from these TMDs, more than half of them show various degrees of depression and almost a quarter show disturbed sleep and fatigue.
Among the most common symptoms of the TMDs:
- Joints noises (clicking, popping or crepitus sounds on one or both joints)
- Facial pain
- Chronic headaches
- Jaw pain (specially with chewing and wide mouth opening)
- Ear pain, clogging or ringing
- Neck, shoulders and back pain
- Bite changes
- Dizziness and visual changes
- Jaw locking (closed or open locks)
